  • which needs some amount of development investment by software companies. The likelihood of that happening is low to problem n°1 above. No one would invest in a market that has no money.

Even if computers trickle in to Ethiopia somehow (which is not happening), they are of no use for an ordinary Ethiopian child who does not understand much English. The software companies will not be rushing to build computers for Ethiopian children since there is no money to be made out of it. The present system condemns every Ethiopian child to computer darkness for the foreseeable future.

Ethiopia is a country where so many different cultures come together as one to form a fascinating nation. It is a country where the works of nature can genuinely be appreciated. And most of all, Ethiopia is a country where faith is the rule of life. It is a country where the people live cheerfully for they have faith and conviction, which can be seen in everything they do, and everyday. Ethiopia is culturally diverse, has been existent since the beginning of time, and is incomparably unique. It is one of the richest countries in the world if affluence is measured in terms of cultural diversity, possession of historical records and incomparable uniqueness. And one aspect of its uniqueness is having its own calendar, making it the only country in the world to celebrate the second millennium eight years later than the rest of the world. As we celebrate the millennium, we should also celebrate the culture, history, uniqueness and beauty of Ethiopia.

What does The Millennium Gift Project do?[ኮድ አርም]

The millennium gift project for the next one and half year prepares a gift of one laptop computer by one travelling Ethiopian to one Ethiopian child to be presented for the millennium celebration.

This project organizes a massive localization and translation project with the participation of all capable Ethiopians, free and open source software developers, institutions such as universities and colleges. Helping with organizing, coding, translating, identifying recipients and donors and contributing money.

The software to be localized and translated to at least one Ethiopian language are[ኮድ አርም]
