en: This is a string translation page to assist in the porting of templates, etc, from the other language editions of Wikipedia. Below are lists of pages containing strings to be translated as well as links to the pages on which they appear for context.
ውክፔዲያ:String translation/Keyboard transliterator is a C++ program which converts Amharic text into the sequence of english characters that are typed to enter the text into Wikipedia or any other Amharic capable text entry system.
I have finished porting all of the location maps for Africa. The only one I couldn't do was Comoros because I couldn't seem to find the location map for it on the English Wikipedia. -AndrewBuck18:07, 27 ጁላይ 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I have included some from the displayed words in the template and marked them as (suggested). If these are ok just remove the (suggested) marker. -AndrewBuck00:19, 25 ጁላይ 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I translated the template over into Amharic using the supplied translations. You can see the Amharic version at Template:የቦታ መረጃ. I haven't switched "native_name" yet since it is still marked suggested. Whenever I get the rest of the translations for this one I can start putting them into articles. I don't want to put the template into more than a couple test ones until all of the arguments are in Amharic, that way the articles themselves don't have to be changed again (at least with reagrds to switching the language). -AndrewBuck19:00, 27 ጁላይ 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I am not sure if this text resides on the Amharic server or if it is commons but it would be nice to get it translated. -AndrewBuck06:07, 25 ጁላይ 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, that particular one is a media-wiki message, and has already been translated via the Beta Wiki server. This means the Amharic text for that should be visible now, if you have reset your language preference to "am" in the preferences. Regards, ፈቃደ (ውይይት) 12:43, 25 ጁላይ 2008 (UTC)[reply]
My bad. I guess its a bit unreasonable for me to set my language to English and then demand that the same interface be translated into Amharic. :) -AndrewBuck14:26, 25 ጁላይ 2008 (UTC)[reply]
If you can translate these strings I can go through and categorize all of the articles under e.g. "Category:West Africa", etc, in the Amharic versions of the categories. -AndrewBuck04:47, 26 ጁላይ 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I added the "Countries in {{{region}}}" because I should probably put the articles directly into that category as that has to be done in the individaul article text. There should also probably be redirects from "Category:{{{region}}}" to "Category:Countries in {{{region}}}" in case someone just puts the shorter version in an article they create. Then all of those articles can be found and fixed by just checking the "What links here" on the redirect category. -AndrewBuck15:03, 26 ጁላይ 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Actually it looks like the other Wikipedias just use the short version for the article categories anyway so I'll go ahead and create them. -AndrewBuck15:21, 26 ጁላይ 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Other templates have been using ስዕል for the image parameter. I don't speak Amharic so I don't know which one to use but they should at least be consistent across the project. I can also easily switch the other templates to this parameter name if you want to. -AndrewBuck21:59, 29 ጁላይ 2008 (UTC)[reply]
